Our Smoking Habits

DSC_0434

For you smokers out there, remember the first time you had a puff and told yourself that you’re only experimenting? That this wouldn’t turn out to be a habit? Well, the moment you start buying your own pack, the experiment becomes a habit. When you start needing cigarettes to get through the day, the habit becomes an addiction.

Smoking is a disgusting habit  that should be stopped. We should do more to highlight the risks to our youth. Big tobacco does not own you. You can and must stop. I’m working on a concrete plan to first decrease and subsequently extinguish our smoking population.

Right after this fag… ;)

The night market was alive! Well, as lively as it can get here…

Sometimes, when times get rough, all you need is your gang.

The Kids

It was holiday on Monday (Monday holidays are the best). The kids came over and we had fun! Kids’ll do anything you want them to as long as you make it a game.

Taxi

We had Sunday Brunch at Delifrance, Brunei International Airport.

Here’s something nobody ever thinks about – How are the taxi drivers in Brunei holding up?

Joy

My two brothers

A few months ago, we drove up to Kudat, the northern most tip of Borneo. The drive took us from a bay to the mountains to the grasslands and lastly, the beach. This picture was taken behind Mt. Kinabalu. The long ride must have driven my two brothers crazy. What you don’t see in the picture is that they were dancing on top of the car!

More pictures from the roadtrip here.

I suspect that the meaning of life is joy and happiness. I suspect that we sometimes lose track of that. I suspect that we don’t try and make ourselves happy enough. Someone once told me that if you haven’t danced in wild abandon, you haven’t lived.

Faith

It was getting late. We were already losing light when I joined Gerald at the mosque. But sometimes, just when you think you’ve lost the last bit of light, magic happens. This picture is evidence of one of those times.

I’m not a religious person by any standards. But I love the idea that there is a higher being who cares for and listens to us at our lowest. It’s a good concept.

I’m so glad I attended. Louis’ energy and Melvin’s patience were outstanding. I almost forgot how fun learning could be.

More than once in my life, I have come to realise that every person on Earth want nothing more than happiness. Of course, we are all individuals and what makes us happy ranges from person to person. Right now, I’m just learning to live in the moment and save up enough for tomorrow. Come what may, pictures like these make me happy :)

Windows

Window

I took a quick trip to Kg Ayer with Gerald and How. This is probably my favourite shot of the day.

They say that our eyes are the windows to our soul. That we instinctively know what the person is like on the inside based on his/her eyes. Is it really as simple as that? I have come to realise that I hate lies. I mean, I really, really hate being lied to, for whatever reason. And the silliest I’ve heard so far from too many people? “I didn’t want you to get hurt.” Bozo… Being lied to hurts more than anything else in the world. Search your heart and you’ll know that this is no exaggeration.
